Building Today's Workforce for Tomorrow in New York
The New York State Builders Association Research and Education Foundation, the educational arm of the New York State Home Builders Association, in collaboration with the Capital Region Builders and Remodelers Association will address recruitment challenges and look at ways to replace the ageing skilled trades’ workforce. This project was funded by a grant under the President’s High Growth Job Training Initiative, as implemented by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration. Goals New York is one of ten pilot projects nationwide selected by the Home Builders Institute, the workforce development arm of the National Association of Home Builders, to increase recruitment into the residential construction industry. Each site comprises representatives from home builders associations, local schools, community colleges and workforce development boards. As a partnership, they work together to recruit 250 participants at each site and develop an Associate degree or its equivalent, to combine craft skills training with academic credit.
