HBI/YouthBuild Partnership

HBI and YouthBuild have teamed up to offer thousands of America’s low income youth access to industry sponsored vocational training and the opportunity to build a career in the home building industry.

HBI received a three-year grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), to provide technical support to Youthbuild in all areas of training in the residential construction trades.

YouthBuild participants receive a combination of classroom academic and job skills development and on-site training in a construction trade. Students also have the opportunity to put acquired skills to good use building housing for low-income and homeless people in their communities.

Since the original HUD grant, HBI has expanded its YouthBuild offerings including, including a two-year matching funds grant from the US Department of Labor. Under this grant HBI will operate a trades training program in Sioux City, Iowa.

HBI's YouthBuild programs are housed under the Workforce Training and Eployment (WTE) Department which also includes Project CRAFT, Project TRADE and Project HOPE.

All programs under HBI's WTE umbrella use the industry sponsored Pre Apprenticeship Certificate Training (PACT) curriculum at their training sites.
